Preface: ESPN asked the TrueHoop Network to weigh in with their second favorite team - the response was a bit more than expected, so now Henry will posting a more succinct version of everyone's thoughts on TrueHoop while we post full versions on our sites.
It was not difficult for me to decide on " the squad [I'd] adopt if [my] club was Sonicsized" (from the explanation email): The Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs have three things that pulled me in:
Dirk Nowitzki - A unique player that is just fun to watch, as long as he is not hitting his awkward jumpers against your squad. And not that he needs my sympathy, but I have always thought he got unfair grief the season he won the MVP award and Dallas lost in the first round. (And I saw Dirk on an episode of Punk'd one time, and he handled getting hassled very well)
Mark Cuban - From a unique player to a unique owner. Cuban turned the franchise around and, according to friends in Dallas, has made Mavericks games the place to be. I respect what he has done and I respect his openness - how many other owners write a blog, let alone one that I enjoy reading?
James Garner - Huh? Well, the Mavs and I have something in common - we were both named after the title character of the television show Maverick, that James Garner starred in. Garner was part of the original ownership group in Dallas, leading to the Mavericks moniker. For me - my dad was just a big fan of the show and convinced my mom to let him name one of his kids Brett (though he couldn't convince her to name my twin and I Brett and Bart, after Maverick and his brother on the show). So, an episode of Punk'd, BlogMaverick.com and a tv shows from the 50's that I have never seen convinced me to be a secret fan of the Mavs. Yeah, that sounds about right. No one said these had to be logical.
