Boris and Battier

02/16/2009

The No-Stats All-Star from the NY Times is a must-read...for all fans. I was tempted to say that it was a must for stats heads, but every fan of basketball would be served to read this. I may be slightly biased, as Shane Battier was my favorite player to watch when I was at Duke, but so be it. Read it and then come back...

And mull this over: When Boris Diaw is on the court with them, four of the Bobcats best players see their PER improve by more than 4 points combined.

He may not be the defender that Shane Battier is, but just another sign that he may contribute more on the court than his own numbers suggest?

Mo Says: Boris is glue, like Battier. He makes everyone around better. He can't guard 2 and 3 like Shane but he's a good bigmen defender. Plus, he is a terrific ofensive force. He'll show that and bring the 'Cats deep in the playoffs.

Anonymous Says: Brett, can you post the PER of Suns players with Boris on the court as well? With Richardson's antics in Phoenix this trade is looking more and more lopsided in Charlotte's favor.

Suns Fan Says: We miss both Boris and Raja. Can we get a do-over now that Kerr has fired the reason these two were sent away?

Chris Says: John Hollinger is the guest on today's BS Report (Bill Simmons' podcast). They talk briefly about the NYT Battier article. They talk extensively about the use of statistics to measure basketball. I haven't finished the podcast yet. I didn't realize that Hollinger's career took off while he was in Portland (which I learned from Wikipedia).

John Says: Sans Fan, the wrong person got fired.
