Bobcats lose to Magic...and Stephen A. Smith

11/24/2007

Quick hitter recap today, as I am tired and the game was...not good.
-Dwight Howard is a monster. He finished the game with nearly as many dunks as points (not possible, I know, but it seemed like it). He makes Emeka look small and no one else on the team has the bulk to guard him. Othella tried but Howard was able to back him down with ease. And Ryan Hollins...well, next point.
-More injuries - Gerald Wallace and Ryan Hollins. Gerald left the game early with a "strained calf", though hearing that he felt a pop in the back of his knee concerns me. Ryan hurt his shoulder trying to d-up on Howard, and left the game with a strained shoulder. Both are scheduled for MRI's this morning, but I have yet to find an update on that. If either are out for an extended period, wins will be very tough to come by. Oh, and, if gambling were legal, I would tell you to take Boston, no matter how points they were giving - 10, 15, 20, it does not matter tonight.
-Stephen A. Smith talks loudly...but sometimes "out of a lack of information". During the studio recap of the night's games with Bill Walton (I saw it during the Nets-Sonics game, which was not as good as I hoped), Smith made the comment that Howard dominated Okafor, and that "MJ needs to work with his bigman". Not sure what SAS wants MJ to do - find a time machine and go back to the 2004 draft and convince Orlando to take Emeka instead? Emeka is a solid power forward, offensively limited, but did grab 18 rebounds in only 29 minutes last night - not too shabby. Yes, Dwight Howard is looking like a possible All-Timer, but what exactly is MJ expected to do about that? Frustrating comment.

Erick Says: I lost faith in Stephen A. after the draft this year. Immediately following the final pick, analysts were doing their thing and discussing who had the best/worst drafts. Stephen A. Smith went into one of his rants about how the Charlotte Bobcats had "the worst draft night of any NBA team." Clearly an ignorant statement.
I think the problem with Stephen A. is that he only has 1 volume, and that extreme and in-your-face style makes it a lot more noticeable when he is just blatantly wrong. I also HATE how he interacts with Bill Walton--he seems like he is constantly not only trying to start a fight but pointedly make Bill Walton angry, which I'm not sure can even be done. I don't want to see awkward non-confrontations between the two, so maybe it's time to vote Stephen A. off the island.
