Bobcats vs. Timberwolves Recap
12/02/2008Detailed boxscore
Score: 100-90 Charlotte
Bobcats Record: 6-11
Efficiencies:
Offensive: 113.6
Defensive: 100.0
Meritorious Player: Raymond Felton. 14 assists. Just 1 turnover. Those 2 numbers would be enough, but Raymond also chipped in 14 points on 12 attempts, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. Impressive.
A thorough beating is not (generally) the result of just one player, and that was true tonight: Though Felton had a very strong game, so did several teammates. Jason Richardson had 25 points on 18 attempts (along with 3 3-pointers made - good for my fantasy team). Emeka had a season high 24 points, 10 rebounds, and perhaps most surprisingly went 6 of 6 at the free throw line. Gerald Wallace had 15 and 9 (though not a great shooting night - he made up for it by getting to the line 7 times, making 6). D.J. had 9 points and 4 assists in just 21 minutes. There is plenty of credit to be spread around.
A team wide point of pride should be the 9 turnovers committed to 17 forced. That used to be (in the long ago time, when Bickerstaff was coach) a calling card of the team - create havoc and capitalize. In the early going this year, turnovers have been a weak point and it is good to see a solid effort on that front, though Minnesota is not known for their defense.
The starters as a group had a good effort (still good to see that, after the struggles in the preseason). They won while on the court, 31-30. More importantly, they drew 8 fouls to only 3 committed, leading to 8 free throw attempts as a group (it may not seem like much, but considering they only played about 14 minutes together, it is solid).
Last note: Raymond is shooting 39.9% for the season. Until last night, he had not shot in the 40%-49.9% range for the season - he had been 37.5% or lower, or 50%+. He broke that streak with a 41.7% shooting night last yesterday. Though the hot nights are a plus, some consistency in this more moderate region would be good (or just fewer of the games where he shoots below 30% - 5 already). Just thought it was interesting that it took him so long to shoot something comparable to his season number for a game.
