Mock Draft Time - Input Needed

06/16/2008

I am participating in a blogger mock draft, representing the Bobcats. So far, there are 6 picks in, and two of the guys I most wanted to see fall to the cats, Love and Westbrook, are gone. But maybe that is good? Check out Ridiculous Upside for the proceedings.

Here is a listing of picks made so far:
1. Chicago - Derrick Rose
2. Miami - Michael Beasley
3. Minnesota - OJ Mayo
4. Seattle - Eric Gordon
5. Memphis - Kevin Love
6. New York - Russell Westbrook

With the Clippers up next, and Shaun Livingston only just being cleared to resume basketball activities after almost a year and a half, Jerryd Bayless seems a good bet. So, what does Milwaukee do at 8? Probably take Anythony Randolph. Leaving...drumroll please, Brook Lopez.

But does that have to be the choice? Well, no: I am making the pick, and the guidelines are to make the best choice, not necessarily the one we expect the team to make. Which is why I would like to hear some input: When the choice rolls around, who should the Bobcats select? Randolph, if he is there? Lopez? Joe Alexander? Darrell Arthur? DJ Augustin? Let me hear your thoughts and reasons.

Pruf Says: I think we should take Randolph if he is there. He seems to have potential and could be the best fit for us. I think we need someone that complements Okafor offensively and defensively, and I believe he does both (if he pans out). Brook Lopez and Kevin Love (not available here) both appear to be good complements to Okafor offensively but not defensively. Still, getting a solid backup center in the draft is not a terrible thing. Alexander is tempting but we have too much wing talent already.

Brett Says: I agree that Randolph would be a good fit, on both ends, but he was unfortunately taken before my selection came around. And I duplicated the Bobcats current roster, with Joe Alexander, who I think is a bit of a bigger version of Crash. Since it was a selection for the site Ridiculous Upside, it seemed appropriate to take a bigger risk than go with Lopez.

James Says: I hear the Bobcats are high on Alexis Ajinca. I know he would be a bit of a reach at 9 but what are your impressions of his game?

Brett Says: Very little - just what I've read from Chad Ford. I've seen Lamarcus Aldrigde comparisons, though Alexis is a good bit bigger at 7-1 with a 7-8 wingspan. I think Alexis is a more likely target should the Bobcats wind up moving down in the draft, perhaps through a trade with Phoenix.
