Improved Pages Require Help
Posted by Brett on 08/17/2009
PRIZES TO BE WON! Now that I have your attention (that was not just a ploy - it is true, details further down), a quick overview. Things have been a little slow on the site lately, I know. But only on the main page - my activity has been focused on the stats pages of late and they are now ready for mass consumption. I did a total rework of the player and team stats pages, and updated the formatting of the game boxscore and league wide stats pages. Based on how seldom they are viewed, I am going to provide details on how to access them:
The
in the link bar will take you to the league wide page. From there, you can use the drop-down to navigate to the team pages.
From an individual team page, you are presented with 3 drop-downs - team, player, games - and these take you where you would expect. Also to note on the team page (and it is similar on the player page): Click on the different tabs to bring up the different areas of stats (this was done with ajax for those who are techies - for the rest, just notice that you do not have to reload the page to get different stats). The final cool things to note about the team pages before we move on - 1st: Links to relevant articles from here, QCH. 2nd: A link to the TrueHoop network blog of said squad and final column (if it exists) is a widget twitter feed from that blog. The easy example is the Charlotte page and you can check it out here: Charlotte Bobcats Team Page.
Up next are the player pages (and this is where you the reader comes in) and an example to start you with is Gerald': Gerald Wallace Player Page. Again, it looks very different from the old layout but similar to the new team pages. The first column is again relevant posts. The 2nd and 3rd columns are where I need your help: These columns contain a quick player summary and any fan photos of the player. I do not have it in me to go through and come up with a witty (or even just coherent) one- or two-liner on every player in the NBA - but I hope that through the power of the interwebs I can get it done. Oh, and I only have a handful of players pics - but I figure that the NBA's collective fandom probably has close to every player covered in snapshot.
So, here is what I am asking: Comment on this post with your player summary and you will be entered to win a $25 gift card to NBA.com (or email qchoops(at)gmail(dot)com - but commenting will be more fun for everyone). Same deal for photos: Either post a comment with a link to a snapshot (please no copyrighted work or ap photos) or send it to me in an email (again qchoops(at)gmail(dot)com) and you will be entered for a chance at another $25 gift card. Yes, two gift cards, $25 each, one for a randomly selected summary entry and one for a photo entry. Credit will be given to the submitter as a quote for the summary or as a credit at the bottom of the pic (and if you provide a link to your site, I will include - within reason).
One last thing before I quit: So, what do you think of the new stats pages? Anything I need to add (or get rid of)? I want to know because I want to make these a useful resource (for Bobcats fans and fans of the rest of the league). Please give feedback (and if I get more than 10 responses, there will be a third gift card for the giving).

Nice Job - Could you make the columns on the team stats pages sortable, e.g. the efficiency differential. That would be very nice to have in one place.
Kendrick Perkins: Perk is a beast. The young, athletic center has developed into an excellent interior defender and rebounder. His offensive game, though limited, can be a pleasant surprise on occasion. It's unclear if Perkins has ever been whistled for a foul that he believed he committed. |

Wilson Chandler: Long and athletic 3. Early twenties. Superb athlete. Ability to be a shut down perimeter defender. Above average 3 point shooter and finisher. Needs to improve ability to hit mid range jumper while on the move or in pick and roll. |

Kevin Martin: Prolific and efficient scorer - many of his points come from 3 or the free-throw line. At times gives up more on defense than he gives the Kings on offense. |

Most dominant NBA center since Shaq in his prime. Superman's kryptonite? The free-throw stripe. |

Nene Hilario: Dominant on offense, lazy on D. Typical Brazilian player (except Andy Varejao). Overcame a cancer and, afterthat, made his best season. |

Small, fast, and tough, KryptoNate knows how to fill up a boxscore -- but his emotions-on-your-sleeve game can be as much hindrance as help to his team. |

DaJuan Blair: Undersized vacuum-cleaner rebounder who is almost over-hyped as Spurs second round steal. Knee ligaments of an earthworm. |

Tim Duncan: One of the best power forwards ever, if not THE best. Should have a commercial dunking, shooting, blocking shots in front of a stoic crowd over the word "BORING". |

| Mon Aug 17, 2009 8:46 pm |
| Jeff Says: | |
Devin Harris: Explosive young point guard that has an elevated role this year following the departure of Vince Carter. Is impossible to stop when attacking the basket, and is gradually becoming a better player on defense. In addition, is "the fastest man with a basketball" according to the Guinness Book of World Records |

Eddy Curry: Smells like teen spirit. Well, not really teen spirit. Something worse.
Sean May: Wishes he could have the magical career of Eddy Curry.
Richard Jefferson: Best fourth wheel in the L thanks to transplant to Spurs. Needs to learn Spurs team defence to excel, but provides an extra offensive spark.

Brandon Roy: 2007 Rookie of the Year. Two time All-Star. Offense is versatile and efficient but not flashy. Utterly selfless on the court, role model off it. |

And on a lighter note...
Channing Frye:
A 6'11" face-up power forward with a sweet shooting touch and winning media presence. Does not like to be called "soft." Prefers "plush." |

Kyle Korver: More women own a replica of his jersey than any other Jazzman; after all, he looks just like Ashton Kutcher. |

DeShawn Stevenson: Tried to start a rivalry with LeBron, and Soulja Boy took his side. Elevates bad basketball to the level of high camp. |

Allen Iverson: Small, speedy prolific scorer. Could have been a pro NFL star but chose NBA stardom instead. Believes training makes you worse... |

| Shea23 Says: | |
Devin "the flash" Harris: A speedy point guard with a near unstopable drive to the basket and a former elite defender. Having a breakout season this year possibly the best point guard in the east at present. Also possibly the fastest man with on the court or at least according to Arthur Guiness' book of records. Not the biggest Stuart Tanner fan but his miracle half court shots are sure to keep you entertained. |

Brandon Roy, aka The Natural. The engine that drives the Portland Trailblazers. He can do a little bit of everything, and do it well. One of the best 4th quarter players in the NBA. |

Gilbert Arenas: Gives you 30 a night, gives up 23, which means a solid 7 points for the low, low price of $100 million. |
|

| David Says: | |
Kwame Brown: Serviceable player, if only he could handle an entry pass...or shoot...or rebound...or look like he was halfway trying... |

Andris Biedrins: Double-double machine. Awkward but effective offensive game. Not the guy you'd want at the free-throw line with the game on the line. |
|

| Justin Chen Says: | |
Kevin Garnett: A perennial All-Star currently playing for the Boston Celtics. (for more definition look up: intensity, defense, passion) |

Brook Lopez: 7 footer that enjoys Disney films, comic books, Star Wars, Ryan Andersen, the movie, "Twins", hitting 12-foot jumpers and being a low-post scorer. |

Pau Gasol: Spaniard used to be softer than a feather. Now a tough center who is a double double machine and all round team player. |

Mark Madsen: White guy who cannot dance, at all. He is the opposite of A.I. great for team chemistry but not an all-star caliber player. |
|
| Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:09 am |
| Bronn Says: | |
Mario West: If he could shoot, dribble, pass, and avoid fouling, he'd be the most dangerous 12th man in the league. |

| Kellen C. Says: | |
J.R. Smith: Remorseless gunner with unlimited range, insane athleticism, and no conscience or judgment. Gilbert Arenas wishes J.R. would show some restraint, but the shots somehow keep falling.
Tracy McGrady: A brilliant flash of genius defeated by the frailties of the human flesh. More important as a symbol than a player these days.
