The Rockets Blew Up My Bubble

09/25/2008

I have been fighting a cold this week, which has kept me away from the computer late at night. So, when I got up this morning and started reading the paper, the Bobcats potential signing of Carl Landry was a very welcome surprise for me. While I did not have much time during the day to dwell on it, I did periodically think of the potential of having an actual power forward on the roster (well, one who would be healthy enough to play, anyway). No more Emeka chasing Chris Bosh on the perimeter. No more Nazr on Dirk. Sure, Carl would be undersized for the job full-time, but the Bobcats roster is still a work in progress, so adding talent is what matters.

All of my good thoughts were moot - the Rockets are a buzz kill. Rather than waiting out most of the 7 day window they had to match, they got it done today. I did not even have time to get a post together, analyzing how the improved rebounding would have increased their wins or how it would be like a taller version of Crash who actually wanted to play the 4. No, thanks to the Rockets, I still have the competition between May, Jermareo, and Ryan Hollins to look forward to.

The funny thing? The Bobcats could have had Carl Landry just as easily as the Rockets - they got him from Seattle in a draft night trade for a future second rounder and cash. Maybe that is what Bob Johnson was referring to when he bashed local businesses this past season for not supporting the team: He needed more money for making moves like the Landry deal. (Do I sound bitter? Might be time to stop.)
