Early Trade Returns

01/02/2008

The Bobcats have now had Nazr Mohammed's services for 9 games - and they have only 3 wins to show for it. So, bad trade, right? Maybe not, actually. Nazr has not really been to blame for the recent results - he has been outperforming Emeka since he came over, in fact. Nazr has scored 16.1 points (on 1.28 points per shot) per 40 minutes in his time with the Cats, while pulling down 12.8 rebounds per 40 minutes, and chipping in 2.2 assists/40 mins. Emeka - 12.9 points (1.15 pps), 11.4 rebounds, 0.4 assists (all numbers per 40 minutes).

So, Mohammed has outplayed Emeka, but what about his effect on the team? He bests Emeka there too: With Nazr on the floor, the Bobcats have been outscored by 2 points per 100 possessions - Not bad for a team at -5.6 for the season. More remarkably, with Nazr on the floor, and Emeka off, the Bobcats have actually played winning basketball, outscoring the opposition by 1.8 points per 100 possessions. Emeka, on the other hand, has floundered since the trade in this regard too: With him on the floor and Nazr off, the Cats are losing by 4 per 100 possessions.

The trade has so far not paid off in the Bobcats record, as a 3 and 6 mark is nothing special. But, the addition of Nazr has given the Bobcats another legitimate post player, which they sorely lacked (and someone who may drive Emeka's price tag down, but that is for another post to dig into). Now, if Sam Vincent could just be convinced that giving more minutes to Jeff McInnis is not the key to winning more games this year...What part of a -11.6 points per 100 possessions for the year spells winner in his mind?

Erick Says: Why, oh please tell me why, is Jeff McInnis starting???? So, now we have regressed are effectively worse than last year, with no proper starting PF, Vincent flip-flopping on what the hell he wants Emeka to do (I swear, I have read about 6 different things where Vincent justifies playing or not playing someone because of Emeka's size or his particular abilities, and these more often than not have ended up contradicting each other), and now a PG who is much less talented than Brevin Knight was last year. We make a trade for a skilled and athletic big man, and now we won't play him either!!!!!!???????????/

Erick Says: UGhaGUAHGUAGUAHGAUHG!!!!!!!!!!! Firstly, it really appears that Sam Vincent is in freaking love with McInnis, giving him more minutes than Emeka tonight. Once again, Nazr outperforms Emeka in LESS MINUTES, and third, we have seen ONCE AGAIN that Gerald Wallace is TERRIBLY unclutch. 8 turnovers inlcuding the last to ice the game. but what KILLS me looking at the boxscore is the net /-...Nazr 14 Emeka -19.....Bobcats fans are ripping their hair out right now.

Noah Says: Come on already! Let's revel in the good times. I am glad to see they are starting to finally start playing 4 quarters and hang on to games they should win. J-Rich and Crash have been monsters. I still think we should trade Mek rather than pay him what he thinks he is worth.

Sloelover Says: Ok...lets keep it real...okafur is workman like but doesn't play with any passion..Jeff even tho he is 1 of my boys from West Charlotte just is not a good fit..Gerald Wallace is 1 of the most under appreciated Plyers in the league...in order for this team 2 get better...Fire Sam Vincent...oh and by the way..Tell Jordan 2 stop smokin them stoogies and do his job or else another charlotte team will be movin elsewhere..
