Welcome Back, Ryan Hollins 12/08/2007
With the Bobcats in the midst of a seven game losing streak, the point has been driven home about the importance of depth: If you don't have it, you're not going to be very good. You may be thinking, come on, Ryan Hollins cannot be that important. He is, for one simple reason: Rebounding.
With Ryan on the floor this season, the Bobcats have grabbed 33% of the available offensive rebounds, an outstanding number, and held their own on the defensive end of the court, at 68%. However, in these last few games that Ryan has missed, the Bobcats have taken a beating on the boards, grabbing only 29% of offensive rebounds...and an amazingly bad 64% of defensive boards. If a team misses 40 shots a night, that 7% difference in offensive rebounding gives the opponent nearly 3 more chances at scoring again. As poor as the Bobcats' offense has been, that is something they cannot afford.
Another reason to be optimistic about tonight? LeBron James seems unlikely to play again...and without him, the Cavs are arguably the worst team in basketball. Really - -23.2 points per 100 possessions for the Cavs when LeBron is a spectator. Get well soon, LeBron, but another night off would do you good.

For those of us who don't follow the 'Cats regularly...what's happened to Primo Brezec? Is he basically finished? Not that he's a good rebounder at all, but amazes me that Hollins is ahead of him in the rotation. |

You were right about the Cavs and Hollins had a nice block in the loss to Detroit last night (I only know this because it was on NBA.com's top 10 plays for Sunday). |

Oh ho ho, gotta love seein the Bobcats on top plays baby! I wouldn't say that Hollins is "ahead of" Primoz in the rotation, especially since Primoz has started games as recently as a couple weeks ago. Primoz, however, is one of the players in the NBA from whom I see the absolute least hustle and 'basketball IQ'(and I watch a fair amount of professional basketball). It seems laborious for him to box out, or even have his arms up defending an inbound pass or going for a rebound. Last year, I had about the same amount of disdain for Brezc and Voskuhl, but at least Jake the Flake plays with emotion and LOOKS LIKE he is trying his hardest. I just can't say I see that from Primoz even half the time. |

All Ryan has to do is learn how to do his job without fouling, he learns that? he will have no problems from then on because he is a very athletic young center, he will work great in an up tempo game. |

uhh, let's not pretend that being athletic and young has anything to do with being a good center. **COUGH KWAME BROWN COUGH DARKO COUGH** sometimes, watching the Bobcats is not indicative of any individual player's skill. it's almost like they all make each other worse (at least recently) |
